ARTist statement
Sophie's practice is shaped by a deep interest in the emotional truths that lie beneath the surface of human experience, its fragility, resilience, and the quiet tensions between beauty and sorrow. Through surreal and symbolic compositions, she explores the places where connection meets isolation, creating an almost dream-like world. She often draws from personal emotion and lived experience, even if only through observation of others. Through visual metaphors, she expresses themes of grief, longing, vulnerability, and endurance. Recurring symbols such as pearls, lace, and blades reveal the delicate balance between tenderness and pain.

She is fascinated by how emotion can be translated into atmosphere. Through textures, gestures, and forms that create a space of reflection. This fascination led her to graphite, a material whose softness and depth allow the image to feel almost like a faded memory. It offers a quiet stillness, allowing emotion to surface gently rather than declare itself. Her work continues to evolve as she expands her visual language, developing ideas that speak to the silenced complexity of feeling and suppressed emotion.
